Harvesting cells grown in special synthetic substrate gel and then transferred into a rotating bioreactor where they mature and differentiate, nervous tissue forming clots.
Nerve clots have a complex structure and demonstrate some of the properties of the brain. In addition, the nervous tissue in them was organized in layers, which are reminiscent of the cerebral cortex. During maturation of neurons migrated from one department to another organelle - the same way as it occurs during the formation of the normal brain.
However, unlike the normal body organelles in the scale had irregular, random structure. They also have no blood vessels, which severely limits their size.
According to scientists, such artificial organelles could be useful in the study of congenital malformations.
Note, previously biologists from the University of Pittsburgh for the first time succeeded in growing artificial heart of the reprogrammed stem cells.
