U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TO PROMOTE THE PROJECT PHOENIX

The U.S. Defense Department is promoting the project Phoenix

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TO PROMOTE THE PROJECT PHOENIXThe current U.S. Department of Defense agency DARPA, the Defense Advanced supervising research projects, actively promoting one of its projects under the name of Phoenix (Phoenix). The project involves using robots and a new class of nano-satellites, resuscitation faulty communications satellites and the construction of new satellites in orbit. The project aims to re-use satellites.

The U.S. Defense Department is concerned about the high cost of its satellite fleet. The system of communications satellites, according to DARPA, is rather wasteful. Communications satellites, in fact, disposable devices. Placed in space in geostationary orbit and by developing a resource assigned them, the devices sent to the original cemetery that is in that region of space where satellites can not be a hindrance to the navigation of other cosmic hard workers.

And yet, many of the components are fully functional satellites. These components, if they are removed and adapted to other spacecraft could continue to operate. Such components include, for example, solar panels, antennas and other components.

Phoenix project, and aims to develop technologies using parts of satellites again. It will be cheaper than delivering them from the Earth. It is not necessary to collect on the same orbit construction vehicles. Of the modules taken, with end-of-age satellites can, for example, to collect other satellites for the U.S. and allied armies.

The basis of the design are nanosatellites that will be sent into orbit with major communication devices. In outer space nanosatellites will be directed in the area of disposal, to dismantle the antenna, install it on yourself and become a new communication devices.
