BRITISH MOTOR TESTED 30000SILNY CONTENDER FOR THE RECORD

The British experienced 30,000-strong engine contender for the record

BRITISH MOTOR TESTED 30000SILNY CONTENDER FOR THE RECORDIn the UK, completed testing of jet propulsion system for car Bloodhound SSC, which next year will attempt to set a world speed record. During the test, the engine was running at full power for ten seconds - Rod reached 62.3 kN (equivalent to 30-40 thousand horsepower), and the noise level near the nozzle is equal to 185 decibels, which is several times louder than a Boeing 747 taking off. This is stated on the official site.

Overall length of 450-pound power plant is four meters and diameter of the nozzle of a jet engine - 45.7 centimeters (over all these indicators unit Bloodhound SSC is the largest in Europe). For ferrying fuel from the tank to the jet engine used motor production Cosworth, analogues of which are mounted on a Formula 1 car in 2010.

During the test, the unit Cosworth whirled to 17,000 rpm, while fuel is pumped at a pressure of 5.6 kPa thousands. This is 20 times greater than the rate at which the engineers were calculated. In addition, the test is passed a special mission and software developed for reactive machine.

For the Bloodhound SSC will use a hybrid fuel - solid fuel (synthetic rubber) and a liquid oxidizer (highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide). According to the developers, such a scheme is the safest for the pilot. In an emergency, it will be able to close the supply of oxidizer and thus put out a jet engine.

As previously reported, the power plant will be installed in a body made of carbon fiber and titanium. Vehicle weight to six tons. Approximate acceleration time to reach a top speed of 40 seconds. During this time, the machine will overcome the distance of 7.2 kilometers. The same distance it will take to complete stop.

A record check will be held next year in South Africa. Developers plan to break the current speed record at 1,227.667 kilometers per hour, speeding up to 1609 kilometers per hour.
