If someone in the family suffers from insomnia, then you have a risk of developing the same deviation increased by 37% and established a team of scientists led by Dr. Charles Morin from the School of Psychology at the University of Laval.
The experts made the conclusions in the analysis of the behavior of 3 thousand 485 people. Survey participants were asked about how well they sleep and their next of kin. Then in the subsequent year three times respondents filled the questionnaire on the same issues.
Data showed 40% of the respondents were in the family, at least one person suffering from insomnia. Of these, 76% of it was one relative with 21% - two of them, and 3% of respondents - three relatives.
It turned out, the risk of insomnia increased in proportion to the increase in the number of relatives who had this problem (at least one relative - 37%, for two - 250%, with three - by 314%). Apparently, there is a significant genetic component, but scientists do not know whether this mechanism is associated with a physiological process that could interfere with sleep, or else the whole thing in the predisposition to anxiety. Also in the family can spread some relevance to insomnia. Experts advise to cope with the problem by working with a psychologist.
