Specifically - in two or even three times better, say researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology behind «Remy», the system creates specialized algorithms to control congestion.
To take advantage of Remy, you need to ask a few variables. (How many people will use the connection? What is the bandwidth they need?) And what parameters you want to use to evaluate the performance (which may be, for example, bandwidth or delay - depending on what for you is a priority.)
You specify connection parameters that you need, and the system begins to investigate algorithms to determine what will work best in your situation. Of course, testing every possible algorithm would be impractical, so Remy setting priorities, looking for small improvements that will give the greatest increase speed. (But even such a fast process takes from four to 12 hours).
The resulting rules, which gives the system, the complexity of most TCP-making: while the traditional TCP applications can act on the basis of only a few rules, Remy is developing algorithms with more than 150 st rules of if X, then Y. The results of his tests are impressive: doubling the bandwidth and two-thirds less latency in the computer link, and the increase in capacity from 20 to 30 per cent in mobile networks, with reduced latency by 25-40 percent.
But it makes Remy impressive so far only on paper. The researchers have not yet tested it on a global Internet, which delivers a host of new variables that must be considered. According to the scientists themselves, it may well be that Remy only allow people to take a fresh look at the problem rather than the solution itself provide.
